Notice: A Day with Gary Striegler

So much was happening back in the first weeks of September 2001. Reading the news and watching videos of the Twin Towers, few of us knew that Roger Cliffe passed way, after suffering a heart attack while riding his bike. While some people knew him as Dr. Cliffe, because he taught technology classes at Northern Illinois University, many of us knew Roger as a prolific author of woodworking books (Table Saw Techniques, Radial Arm Saw Basics, The Shaper Handbook, etc. ), and as an extremely approachable woodworking instructor.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Gary Striegler is once again donating his time to lead an all-day class with the proceeds going to help fund the Roger Cliffe Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to helping woodworking students attend first-rate classes at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking, near Indianapolis, IN.

Like Roger Cliffe, Gary Strielger is one of the most prolific authors in our industry, though Gary’s specialty is finish carpentry. Gary’s projects are frequently found in Fine Homebuilding and JLC—he’s been on the cover of each magazine more often than any other author. But Gary’s day job continues to be construction.

I ran into Gary at the recent IBS show and we talked for a long time about the rewards of teaching and writing—we share the same passion toward both. I also twisted Gary’s arm about contributing to THISisCarpentry, so don’t be surprised if you start seeing some of Gary’s articles in TiC.

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, Gary will be teaching an all-day class on making moldings using a Woodmaster planer/molder, both straight and curved profiles. He will also cover miter saw techniques, fast-and-accurate frame-and panel door construction; pilasters, posts, and paneled jambs; making doors, and trimming them, too: plinth blocks, rosettes, and dentil molding.

The big news is that the class costs only $50.00 and the proceeds go directly to the Roger Cliffe Memorial Fund!

That’s great. I’ve been following all of Gary’s articles and videos for years and wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Look forward to reading them.
Thanks Gary, for making this happen.

      Hi Sam,

I just wanted to clarify that Gary Katz will not be participating in Gary Striegler’s event!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

      Regards,
      Tristan

I attended Gary’s one day event this year and it was a great day of
learning. I have attended Gary’s classes before at Marc Adams school and he always does a great job of explaining things in a way that anyone can understand. I know that everyone who attended learned a new or different and or better way do something. Again a great day with Gary.
